about

Alex Graf’s debut album, Sagebrush Continuum honors the folk traditions of bluegrass and jazz and looks towards their similarities and differences, their points of tension as well as their congruencies. Alex channels his own musical voice as an improviser and (re)interpreter as he dances in the mostly uncharted space between Bill Monroe and Charlie Parker. The album includes six originals and four traditionals and takes a sledgehammer to any siloed approach towards improvising. The record features Jacob Jolliff on mandolin, one of the most captivating improvisers on the instrument and also on the cutting edge of modern acoustic music. Alex and Jacob take turns passing ideas to one another, communicating seamlessly across their multi-genre perspective. Bassist, Evan Suiter rounds out the sound and guides the ship towards their ultimate destination, a new sonic home where jazz and bluegrass are reunited, grooving all the while.

"It's wonderful to see new artists exploring the burgeoning world of New Acoustic Music. Guitarist Alex Graf continues to push boundaries and take this music to new and unexplored limits. I'll thoroughly enjoy listening to Alex's new record and am excited for what's to come. Kudos!"
